Private Character Editor- Eudcedit

" There is an accessory program called the Private Character Editor included with Windows XP that is quite obscure and little-known. It is used in conjunction with the Character Map previously discussed and provides a way to create your own fonts or logos."

I saw this over at digg.com, but the link that was provided has since been removed. I find it rather odd that a program within XP is now getting discussion at the end of XP's product life cycle. I may have to play around with the program. I could make some old school logos or something. Reminds me of the pattern editor in Animal Crossing.

The Fixed

This is the new site of a series called The Fixed. We will show you many cool "hacks" and/or neat tricks you can do. We are taking over where "The Broken" left off, and it will be badass! We have many things planned and have started shooting our first episode.

Not another Hacking Net Show. As of now not that great of quality but some info could be learned from the first episode. The Fixed should invest in some better video equipment.
Oh well, i guess this takes place of thebroken, which had a good start disappeared and appears to have recently published a new video.

Slashdot | Wii Aches — Couch Potatoes Working It Up

Genocaust writes
"While the new controller on the Wii is proving to be a success, it's turning out to be more effort than some die-hard couch potatoes bargained for. The Wall Street Journal reports on the newest workout regime for nerds."
From the article:
"In Rochester, Minn., Jeremy Scherer and his wife spent three hours playing tennis and bowling, two of the games included with the Wii. Mr. Scherer says he managed to improve his scores ? at the cost of shoulders and back that were still aching the next day. 'I was using muscles I hadn't used in a while,' says Mr. Scherer, a computer programmer who describes himself as 'not very active.' Mr. Scherer is vowing nightly 'Wii workouts' to get in better shape."
"Bunnies Don't Know What To Do With Cows," in Rayman, is another guaranteed way to get your arm aching. Cows are heavy, and it takes a lot of energy to throw them.

Wall Street Journal article linked at /. on how people are getting a workout playing the Wii.

Nintendo preps MP3 player accessory for DS, GBA //Arstechnica

Nintendo has muddied the debate between users who favor multifunction gadgets versus single-purpose devices, by announcing a new MP3-playing addition to their line of handheld game player. The Nintendo MP3 player is slightly larger than a regular GameBoy Advance game cartridge, and it works with the Game Boy Micro, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, and of course, the Nintendo DS. In reality, the new MP3 player is a modified version of the Play-yan multimedia add-on that has been available in Japan for over a year.

I'm hoping Nintendo will bring this device over to America. Reggie, could we please get this here in America. Then I wouldn't always have to lug my iPod Nano and DS around all the time. I?m not sure where Arstechnica is getting their source that Nintendo will bring this over to America, the article only states that it is being launched in Europe along side the Wii.
I guess I will have to wait and find out.
It would be nice to have SD Card with songs on it, and use between my Wii and DS.

Why Is YouTube Always Down During The Night?

Why the hell is YouTube always down during the night?
YouTube probably get it's most hits during the night, when people get nostalgic and are somewhat drunk you tend to see what you can find on YouTube.
Just like now I wanted to look up Micro Machines commercials.
Damn you YouTube, what the hell can you guys be doing if you have to pull down the site every night!

Nice logo I'm created with every night I try to access YouTube.

Boing Boing: Find It! puzzle is very difficult (at least for me)

Find It! is an online puzzle where you are presented with a photo that has some element in it that changes gradually. You have to click the changing element before the green timer bar runs out. I had a really hard time with most of the photos.

Man this is hard.

Kansas City Scout

I have seen some of the signs for kcscout.net on the highway, mainly out in JO. The website has some interesting info about traffic conditions in Kansas City Metro area, as the website tracks traffic on the Kansas City highway system. You can check cameras and look at how traffic is traveling down the highway. It is a shame that more of the system is not implemented in other parts of the KC area, and not just Johnson County. It could at least reach down I-70 to 435 on the west end of the Metro area.
It would also be nice to have some of this installed down I-70 or K-10 to receive information on travel conditions from Kansas City Metro to Lawrence.

Overall this seems a nifty idea, with poor coverage area, and half useful website. Hopefully than can release more camera and monitoring systems to make the website more useful for Kansas City Metro area citizens, and not just those speeding down 435 to I-35 to get home from work, or those zipping down 435 E to make their way down to the Country Club Plaza.
Oh well...

They Write the Right Stuff

But how much work the software does is not what makes it remarkable. What makes it remarkable is how well the software works. This software never crashes. It never needs to be re-booted. This software is bug-free. It is perfect, as perfect as human beings have achieved. Consider these stats : the last three versions of the program -- each 420,000 lines long-had just one error each. The last 11 versions of this software had a total of 17 errors. Commercial programs of equivalent complexity would have 5,000 errors.

A very interesting read about who makes the software that runs the Space Shuttle and how it is written.
I like the mention of
No, it's not the on-board shuttle group. It's Douglas Coupland's "Microserf's," a true-to-life fictional account of life in the software-fast-lane. And it's the dominant image of the software development world: Gen-Xers sporting T-shirts and distracted looks, squeezing too much heroic code writing into too little time; rollerblades and mountain bikes tucked in corners; pizza boxes and Starbucks cups discarded in conference rooms; dueling tunes from Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morrisette and the Fugees. Its the world made famous, romantic, even inevitable by stories out of Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, and Netscape.
