University of Kansas Final Four Champion

This is a post of a picture grabbed from a webcam in Lawrence, KS just after Kansas took the title for national champions in the Final Four.

Boing Boing: University of Kansas threatens to permantly lock downloading students out of its network

Students at the University of Kansas who are accused of "downloading copyrighted material" will have their network access permanently terminated. Presumably this means that even downloading "fair use" works (mashups, etc), looking at web-pages, or even getting your profs' lectures is disallowed

Ouch, and KU once had a semi-open policy about P2P networks and such. KU's network especially the RESNET side of things has always sucked. Spreading viruses around campus like wild fire, and not managing bandwidth correctly. KU solution at the time was to turn off any useful service available, such syncing Exchange servers with students e-mails with Outlook, and many other technologies that would ease data management from classroom and areas of study. But yet, P2P networks where still allowed and viewed as a valuable source to the Academic data structure. Guess not anymore, all the little kids in the dorms sucked down to much bandwidth that poor ass broke KU (State of Kansas) can't afford to leak out.
