Mission of the JCCC Sudanese Lost Boys & Girls Club
The mission of the JCCC Sudanese Lost Boys and Girls Club (JCCC SLB&G Club) is to assist JCCC Sudanese students in acclimating to US culture and to educate peers, staff and the surrounding community of the socio-cultural issues faced by the Sudanese.
The JCCC SLB&G Club strives to provide support for immigrant Sudanese students and programming that encourages the exchange of life experience, culture, geography, language (Arabic, English and other dialects) etc. Our vision is to make education at JCCC a realistic possibility for Sudanese immigrants by providing assistance for such challenges as language development, finances, lack of understanding of U.S. social and educational systems etc.
Goals of the JCCC Sudanese Lost Boys & Girls Club
The JCCC SLB&G Club will utilize the student power of Johnson Count Community College and community support to:
Connect prospective and current Sudanese and other refugee students with JCCC and community resources.
Provide advocacy and leadership skills mentors.
Encourage and support educational exchange, and social and cultural opportunities within the campus and surrounding community.
Offer life skills mentoring.
Facilitate community education on the plight of the Sudanese Lost Boys and Girls and other refugees resettling in Johnson County and the surrounding areas.
Objectives of the JCCC Sudanese Lost Boys & Girls Club for 2005-2006
Organize and offer a minimum of one presentation to JCCC students and community regarding the history and current status of the LB&Gs each semester.
Organize and offer a minimum of one presentation to JCCC students and community regarding the current status and needs of the population of displaced Sudanese remaining in Sudan and refugee camps.
Organize and offer weekly, 1-2 hour English language development and life skills training assistance sessions led by peer Sudanese or other refugee students.
Organize and deliver individual or group presentations regarding the Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan and current events/conditions in Sudan , as requested.
Raise scholarship funds for current and prospective Sudanese, JCCC students.
Serve as a point of contact for the JCCC Sudanese and other refugee populations by providing referrals to JCCC campus or community resources.

The JCCC Sudanese Lost Boys & Girls Club (LB&G Club) was established in the spring of 2005 by a group of JCCC Sudanese students desiring to aid fellow immigrants, particularly other Sudanese.
Any JCCC student wishing to learn more about the history and triumphs of the Sudanese refugee immigrants and desiring to share their experiences and knowledge in helping the Sudanese acclimate to life in the US is welcome to join.
